History of Gema Hernandez Communities for a Lifetime© Program
The concept of creating cities and towns in Florida which acknowledged the special needs of Seniors and the relationship they have with others in a well rounded neighborhood, was first brought to the publics attention in 1996 through writings by Gema G. Hernandez. As the Secretary of the Dept. of Elder Affairs during the Lawton Chiles Administration in 1998, she copyrighted both the original text, and content which are currently referred to in program materials for the Community for a Lifetime© project.
At that time, she borrowed from her published writings and offered it to the Dept. of Elder Affairs and the Area Agencies on Aging. This was done however with the understanding that she would retain credit as being the author of any program related publications.
Much of the currently related paperwork for this program seemingly does not properly credit Dr. Hernandez with regard to those provisions made through copyright designation and registration.
Senior Solutions of Pinellas County wishes to appropriately acknowledge Gema G. Hernandez for her participation in the initial development of this program, and the commitment the Dept. of Elder Affairs has made to the furtherance of this concept.
Further, Senior Solutions of Pinellas County (an independent consultation business), to the best of their knowledge and ability, will offer this recognition in any and all references made to the program through this web site from this day forward.
This therefore, we hope will serve as a blanket source of due recognition for the Senior Solutions of Pinellas County web site.
Senior Solutions of Pinellas County’s web site offers information about this program and many other things as a service to the community, to Seniors residing in and outside of Gulfport, Fl., their loved ones, and others who might be interested in helping to develop such a community elsewhere.
Gema Hernandez, D.P. A., continues as well to work on behalf of Seniors throughout the State of Florida and elsewhere. Her current efforts and those in the past are respected and appreciated.
