Jane Ogilvie of Senior Solutions of Pinellas County has become a member of my family...Mary Lou Milch

Dear Jane,

Your professional insight and calm manner during this most confusing time was a godsend.  Your ability to provide concise and reasonable assessments of what we were facing was most helpful.  We felt as though we have together formed a team with you working for our aunt.  We never felt you treated our aunt as simply a case file but rather as an important client and a person.  Your expertise and guidance was provided to us in deliberate, reasoned tones both soothing and assuring.  You never made us feel intimidated by the enormity of the situation nor belittled us by our ignorance of the law.  You gently counseled us through the emotionally overwhelming task we faced.  You broke the situation into parts, gradual, important milestones achieved as we moved along, again together.  The decisions required were ours to make and we did, but you patiently explained the various options clearly and supported the decisions we ultimately made.

Your service since the new placement of our aunt has been outstanding.  Your reports and updates are client oriented, specific, addressing health, medical and your professional, personal observations.  You look after our aunt better than we could possibly have believed anyone could.  The staff knows you and accepts you as a team member, an associate.  We truly feel our aunt has been rescued by your advocacy.  We know her quality of life has been enriched in innumerable ways since you interceded on her behalf.

You have our family's deepest gratitude.

Before we met I looked at your website and saw that you listed “advocacy' as one of your menu of services. You promised to “respond to complaints, investigate the situation, discuss the complaint with the appropriate individuals, and support the client to achieve resolution.” I had no idea that this promise would be accompanied by the same sort of medical rigor combined with activist urgency that resulted for the first time in real hope for those living with HIV. And my initial pessimism was happily turned into an ongoing optimism regarding Dad's final years, and the real likelihood that because of your dedication, he will look back on these years as a time that he was able to lead the good life.

There really is nothing I can offer in exchange for that gift other than my thanks. What transformative work you do! So, from one activist to another, hang in there and know you've changed the world.

With fondest regards,
Irl S. Barefield J.D.

What is:

Better than the "purple pill", more powerful than ibuprofen, aspirin, and Tylenol combined, cheaper than trips to a psychiatrist, better than staring at the "TV", is low in calories, fats and cholesterol, isn't harmful to the environment, requires no scrubbing, lifting, or bending, doesn't raise your debt load, is priceless but not traded on Wall Street, is legal but not regulated by local, state or federal government, you can't get a ticket for doing, is internationally acceptable, can be done individually or with others, requires no diploma or degree, can inspire laughing, can raise self esteem, can promote creativity, improve communication skills, can be an intergenerational event, is good for people of all ages, requires no artistic ability, can be done on a "good" or "bad hair day" in housecoats, overalls & boots, or formal attire, you don't have to keep score, and there is no PIN number to remember?

I join with my aunt in expressing our gratitude to Jane Oglivie & Senior Solutions of Pinellas County, for her care and concern for my aunt's sister and her brother-in-law who reside in a nursing home that is too far away from us to make frequent visits.

It is wonderful to know that Jane is concerned with their welfare and has their best interests in mind. We certainly appreciate her frequent visits to them and her reports to us regarding their needs and condition. When we do get to visit, we can see that they are well taken care of and enjoy a wonderful relationship with Jane.

Senior Solutions is an Elder Care Management service that we are highly pleased with and would certainly recommend to anyone.

Helpful Hint from Bernie!

If you use a cane a lot and get tired of replacing the rubber tips because they wear out, put a small one on first, then, put a larger one on over top of it. You get more mileage that way before you have to replace them!

MY FAMILY AND I ARE HIGHLY PLEASED WITH THE SERVICES THAT WE ARE RECEIVING FROM JANE OGILVIE/SENIOR SOLUTIONS. THE SCOPE AND LEVEL OF SERVICE AND CARING THAT OUR MOTHER RECEIVES FROM JANE ALLOWS HER TO MAINTAIN HER INDEPENDENCE, EVEN THOUGH SHE IS IN HER MID-NINETIES. IT ALSO ALLOWS THIS FAMILY TO ENJOY A POSITIVE COMFORT LEVEL, CONFIDENTLY KNOWING THAT, EVEN THOUGH WE LIVE FAR AWAY, MOM IS IN VERY CAPABLE HANDS.

I WOULD HAPPILY RECOMMEND SENIOR SOLUTIONS TO ANYONE WHO IS AWAY FROM THEIR LOVED ONE AND IS CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR WELFARE. WHETHER THE FAMILY MEMBER IS LIVING ALONE OR IS IN AN ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY IT IS VERY NICE TO KNOW THAT THEY ARE BEING MONITORED AND CARED FOR BY AN EXPERIENCED CAPABLE INDIVIDUAL.

SINCERELY,

Jane Ogilvie is the best! I don't know how I would have managed during the last year of my mother's decline as she failed both mentally and physically. Since I lived four hundred miles away and had a full-time job, seeing to Mother's care from such a long distance away was difficult. Fortunately, I discovered Jane before the real crises began. She was there when Mother could no longer handle her finances. She was there when Mother needed to move from independent living to assisted living and saw to it that Mother received the care she was promised in the assisted-living facility. She was there when Mother could no longer remain in assisted living and had to go into a nursing home. During all this time, I especially appreciated the way that Jane sent me frequent and full reports via email. We talked on the phone often. She counseled me when I had difficulty coping with Mother's rapid decline and advised me on ways to handle troubling and emotionally-charged situations as they arose. She also kept our budget in mind, and I felt comfortable discussing with her the financial limitations we faced. I found Jane to be caring as well as effective. She has the best interests of her clients in mind and brings a vast knowledge of elder care to her work. Even though Mom has been dead over a year, I still consider Jane a friend.

My family and I hired Jane Ogilvie to take charge of my father's medical care and to coordinate his other needs during the last months of his life. The purpose of hiring Jane was to allow my father to remain at home rather than force him into assisted care living or a nursing home.

Jane succeeded beyond our expectations. Within several weeks she had adjusted his medication schedule since Dad was taking medication at the wrong times, taking more than he should of some, and not taking others at all. Jane also spoke with each of his Doctors prompting them to re-evaluate his condition.

Within a month people were commenting on Dad's improvement, particularly in his mental state. Jane also coordinated getting Dad back and forth to Doctors appointments, making sure that he had food in the house, paid his bills, etc.

Jane has my highest recommendation for anyone considering help in similar circumstances. I know that my father also thought very highly of Jane, saying on more than one occasion that she was like having a family member taking care of him.

If you are considering using Jane and would like to talk to me in person, please call me at the number below or contact me by email. I will be happy to provide more information.

Hi Jane,

In a recent letter you mentioned that many people are not familiar with the services provided by Care Management as in your business. I wasn’t until my brother and his wife started to have problems. One of their neighbors called and said my brother just went into the hospital and they needed someone to stay with his wife who has Parkinson’s disease. Social Services found her a place in an assisted living home. While there, and before my brother was discharged from the hospital, she broke her hip. When he was discharged from the hospital, some of his neighbors suggested that I come down and help him get organized.

While discussing the problem with my cousin and his wife, I learned that you had a Care Management business a few miles from my brother’s home. Until then, I never knew that there was such a service. The day before I came down, I called you and made an appointment for the next day to learn how you could help us. You made an initial assessment of my brother and several days later of his wife who was in a rehab center. We then signed a contract for your services.

While my brother’s wife was in rehab, you took my brother to his doctors, talked to them about his condition and his medications. Then you tackled the paperwork back at his house. My brothers financial, insurance and medical records were very disorganized. There were many neglected bills to be paid and a problem determining what assets they had. There was a rather large annuity with an insurance company, which neither my brother nor his wife knew about or had any record of. It was found when you requested a list of accounts in their name at this company. Straightening out the records was an important part of your service.

You made arrangements for a tour of an Assisted Living Unit. We liked the arrangement and a contract was written and approved by your Elder Law Attorney. My brother took a room in the Assisted Living Unit. When his wife was discharged from rehab, you arranged for her to go into the Skilled Care Unit.

With nobody living in their home, you took care of removing furniture and belongings and having the phone service discontinued in preparation for selling the home. You then found a buyer for the home, a lawyer to take care of the sale and then sold it. It seemed like there was nothing that you couldn’t take care of.

Working with your Elder Law Attorney, you agreed to a Lifetime Service Provider Contract where you would take care of my brother and his wife for the rest of their lives. You also arranged for prepaid funerals for both my brother and his wife. When she passed away, everything was taken care of.

Your service has saved me many trips to Florida and given me the peace-of-mind knowing my brother is in capable hands. As I have said before, I couldn’t have done it alone. Just want to let you know how much you are appreciated.
